For many years now, the development version of Scribus has been the one that most people will recommend you to use.
The current development version is said to be on its way to become the new stable version 1.6 but it will probably take some time before a new stable version gets released.

We provide nightly snapshots that are based on the current code.
Most of the time, development snapshots are of high quality and older features shold be as robust as in the stable version: but be careful when using new features!
Uasge of unstable versions for other goals than testing is at your own risk.
Unstable developer snapshots can corrupt files of stable versions and can make them unusable.
Nightly Scribus 1.5.x for Linux
Normally, we are producing nightly builds of the Scribus main branch but, currently, the newest Scribus code cannot easily be built on Linux: The team decided to start the migration of Scribus Qt 6 and there are no Qt 6 packages available for Debian or Ubuntu, yet.
For the near feature we will track the development of the 1.5.x branch and then next stable version 1.6 which should be the next release.
A Gitlab Continous Integration Job produces an Appimage each time the developers push a new commit:
The Gitlab Continous Integration Job for the main branch is still being synced but the creation of the AppImage fails:
For Ubuntu a PPA is available. The nightly build is called scribus-trunk
.
Scribus being Open Source, you're very welcome to download, study, and modify its source code.
